The Labor Day Weekend Family Conference is an inclusive religious fellowship open to all races and faiths. It has been meeting annually on Labor Day Weekend since 1946 to provide individuals and families a time of learning, worship, community and recreation in a very special outdoor New England setting on the shores of Lake Winnipesauki.

What makes this conference SPECIAL is that we sing lots of silly songs. Over the years this one has become the signature silly song of the weekend.

GEOCACHING
with Janice Englund (1 day) Geocaching is a worldwide game of hide and seek that can take its fans on adventures that they might miss out on otherwise. Geocache “treasures” are hidden all over the world in interesting places, their location pinpointed using Global Positioning Technology (GPS), and their location shared at the global online geocaching website www.geocaching.com. Use of the website is free. A cache can be any type of watertight container (an old ammo box, a Tupperware type box or a teeny tiny nano) and usually holds a logbook for finders to sign and may contain tradable trinkets. After a treasure hunter has located a cache, they return to the website and record their experience and can also share photographs taken during the hunt. Anyone with a hand-held GPS receiver can geocache. Some geocaches are games within games and make the hunter think outside the box. Sometimes the trinkets have tracking numbers and are moved from box to box. These are called Travel Bugs or Geocoins. The excitement of the game is enhanced by the fact that most geocaches are in public places and the hunter must be secretive to be certain non-geocachers don’t observe the discoveries.

BUDDHISM with Tom Stevens (3 days)
Overview of the life of the Buddha, the twelve-fold path, enlightenment, three main buddhist divisions - Mahayana, Theraveda and Zen. Tibetan Buddhism and the role of prayer wheels and the Book of the Dead. Maybe pictures of the temples and of what we actually saw of the religion in real life today in China.

MEDITATION with Rev. Tom Jones (2 Days)
We will have a brief introduction to the tradition of using meditation to achieve spiritual peace. This will include some historical exploration of several of the major faith movements which have shaped our understanding and practice today. We will then have time to go out on the grounds of Geneva Point to practice these techniques, and then return to share our experiences of the benefits of meditation. We will be using Centering Prayer, breathing, focused mindfulness, bodywork, and scripture as our foundation to experience this ancient form of spiritual refreshment.
Led by Rev. Tom Jones, pastor at First Congregational U.C.C. in Charlotte, Michigan, and a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

SAFETY with Nancy Cook (3 days)
Nancy Cook will discuss safety issues - those in our homes and elsewhere - involving adults, children and even pets. We will talk about chemicals, toys, power tools, abuse, aerosol cans, weapons, cars, medications, maturity level of children and more. Nancy has no unique background in this area, just common sense and observation. She has a degree in psychology. She plans to bring hand outs.

TALENT SHOW The Sunday evening event is a highlight of the weekend. Start planning what you can do NOW. Tell a joke, sing or dance, play an instrument, perform a skit. Bring props with you from home. You will also want to bring Kleenex to wipe away the tears when you laugh uncontrollably.
| CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAMS
NURSERY, PRESCHOOL AND GRADE SCHOOL Age appropriate indoor and outdoor play, games and arts-and-crafts.
TEEN PROGRAMS Low Ropes Course A set of problems presented to the group that must be solved using the physical and intellectual resources of the group. Elements are designed low to the ground in order to build individual and group confidence, as well as prepare them for a possible High Ropes Course experience. | SILENT AUCTION AND BOOK SALE This fundraiser is comprised of treasures conferees donate. In 2008 a wide range of offerings included candles, vases, handcrafted items, jewelry, a S'Mores kit, photo albums and scrapbooks, kid-oriented items, Christmas decorations and much more. The Silent Auction is laid out Friday and continues until just before the Talent Show Sunday night. Simultaneously, a book sale is held where you can donate used books or pick up good fiction, non-fiction or childrens books.

MEAL TIME We need people to offer a Grace at each meal. We also hope people will bring their favorite jokes to share.
DIETARY REQUESTS May be made directly to Geneva Point Center.

HANDICAPPED ACCESS Geneva Point housing, meeting and dining facilities are separated by hills and unpaved walkways. Inquire in advance about limited transportation.

PETS In fairness to all guests, no pets of any kind are allowed at Geneva Point Center.
|
BICYCLES Bicycles may be used during afternoon free time only and are restricted to fields and Geneva Point roads (no walkways or hiking trails). Riding bikes to activities is not permitted. All bikers must supply and wear their own helmets -- it's the law!

The Newcomers Fund exists because many members of the conference have donated or raised money to help introduce people to the conference. The Board of Directors manages the fund and would appreciate a gift from you be included with your registration. Board members would also like to hear about ideas for fundraisers and suggestions for creative uses of the fund.
The Conference Fee for newcomers is fully subsidized. The Housing Fee is discounted $10 per person for reservations mailed before August 15, 2009.

Please submit payment for half of your total cost (Conference Fee, Housing Fee, Linens (if needed), less Newcomer Subsidy and Discount) with Registration Form. A bill for your balance will be mailed May 1, 2009. Reservations made after August 1 should be paid in full. Cancellation charge is $25 per person before 90 days, $50 per person for 60 days and $100 per person if you cancel within 30 days.

| HOW TO GET TO GENEVA POINT CENTER |
|
From the south, take I-93 North to Exit 23. Turn onto Route 104 for 9 miles. At the junction of Route 104 and US Route 3, take a left onto Route 3 for approx. 1 mile. At the traffic lights in Meredith, bear right onto Route 25 for 8 miles. Take a right onto Moultonborough Neck Road at the traffic lights (just beyond the service station). Travel 5.7 miles (watch out for the traffic patrolman who lives on this road and would love to meet you). Bear left at the fork in the road. Turn left onto Geneva Point Road and follow to the Geneva Point Center.
